Despite the fact that there’s huge excitement around Apple‘s
next generation iPhone, the company seems to have something interesting planned
for its iPad lineup as well. While the current iPad lineup includes a 7.9-inch
iPad mini and iPad Pro, 9.7-inch iPad Air and a 12.9-inch iPad Pro, reports
suggest that a new 10.5-inch model will also be introduced this year. According
to the new information on Apple’s new iPad lineup, the company might be
considering a 10-10.5-inch display variant for the next generation iPad Pro.
Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities said that Apple’s
10-10.5-inch model could be a high-end variant with a bezel-less display. The
model will also come with Apple’s top-end A10X processor among other
improvements. Despite three new models that Apple has in its roadmap ahead,
analyst Ming-Chi Kuo isn’t bullish on growth of the iPads. According to the
analyst, the iPad shipments in 2017 will witness a drop to around 35-37 million
units year-on-year.
According to previous reports, the tablet lineup from Apple
will include a low-cost iPad with a 9.7-inch display, a new iPad Pro with a
display that is either 10 or 10.5-inch, and a 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2. The reports
also stated that the main reason behind a 10.5-inch iPad variant is the higher
adoption of the 10-inch tablets among
enterprises and the education sector in the US. While its existing 9.7-inch
iPad might not be the preferred display size for these segments, the 12.9-inch
iPad Pro on other hand could be too expensive for such a target audience.
Apple’s next generation iPad line up is expected to be
unveiled in March this year and go on sale in the following weeks. As said
earlier, main attraction of Apple’s 2017 products will be the new iPhones as
the company celebrates 10th anniversary of the smartphone. Based on rumors and
leaks so far, the company is expected to launch as many as three variants of
the iPhone, with 4.7-inch, 5-inch and 5.5-inch display sizes. Rumors suggest
that the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 variant will come with OLED display and a
dual-camera setup. While the 5-inch variant will retain the dual-camera setup,
it will sport a LCD display instead. Rumors suggest that, both rear cameras on
the iPhone 8 will come with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The 4.7-inch
will be the cheapest of the three variants and will also come with a LCD
display along with a single camera sensor.
